General Description

The LP4060 is a complete constant-current/constant- voltagelinear charger for single cell lithium-ion batteries. Its SOT23-5package and low external component count make the LP4060ideally suited for portable applications. Furthermore, theLP4060 is specifically designed to work within USB powerspecifications. No external sense resistor is needed, and noblocking diode is required due to the internal MOSFETarchitecture. Thermal feedback regulates the charge current tolimit the die temperature during high power operation or highambient temperature. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V/4.35V,and the charge current can be programmed externally with asingle resistor. The LP4060 automatically terminates the chargecycle when the charge current drops to 1/10th the programmedvalue after the final float voltage is reached. When the inputsupply (wall adapter or USB supply) is removed, the LP4060automatically enters a low current state, dropping the batterydrain current to less than 1μA. Other features include chargecurrent monitor, automatic recharge and a status pin to indicatecharge termination and the presence of an input voltage.
